Gus (Gussie, Cutie Pie, Love Bug and formerly known as Junior)
We changed his name today to Gus for esopha”gus”, to celebrate his new life!
Gus came to us in pretty bad shape. He had a Persistant Right Aortic Arch and his prognosis was poor. This should be treated early as it starts to affect the rest of his body as he slowly starves to death. And his time was running out. His food wasn’t getting through and his esophagus expanded and expanded and expanded…it was full of food that hadn’t digested and he kept aspirating…life wasn’t looking good for our little guy……and he kept getting skinnier…..he weighed a third of what he should and was getting sicker by the day….but a lot of prayers and a lot of hope and a lot of optimism…and mostly, a lot of amazing veterinary care, and our boy is looking good today. He has a long road ahead of him, but we think he is up for the challenge!
This morning the vets at Mill Bay Veterinary Hospital opened his chest from the left side, located the band of tissue obstructing poor Junior's esophagus, and transected it. We hope his esophagus will shrink back down to normal size, but for the time being, he will need assistance in feeding. A HUGE thank you to everyone at Mill Bay Veterinary Hospital for all their wonderful care! Without the love and care you showed our little boy, he wouldn’t have the chance at his brand new life!
Gus……The little puppy who could……
